SX Callisto MSL Electric Guitar Silver

This review is from: SX Callisto MSL Electric Guitar SilverGreat guitar for the price.. be warned these Les Pauls are a little heavy. I was told that but didn't believe it until I purchased this one! It sounds great, feels great, looks great.. Over all it is 5 stars all the way!...

This review is from: SX Callisto MSL Electric Guitar SilverI have many electric guitars (I am a collector and player) from just about all the large manufacturers and most of them land in the $400.00 to $800.00 range, but do have a few $3K Gibsons.I don't have this guitar, but I do have the Callisto SCTVY, JRTVY, Reso1CEFRVS, Travel Guitar, and an Agile (next step up to pro level) AL-3100.These guitars are probably the best kept secret around.Once set up correctly they are some of the best guitars available. The fretboards are in great shape with no drying out.The frets are cut correctly and are not sharp. The nuts are well placed and have rounded ends. The finishes are above average for the price. The necks are straight (as stated at RondoMusic; the company that controls the overseas manufacturing and world distribution). As mentioned in another review, all SX guitars need to be set up properly, and in most cases youcan do it yourself and do not need a so called pro to do it.The following items need to take place to bring your low priced way above average SX guitar within specs:Put on new strings; don't even think about keeping the ones that are on the guitar even though they have a nice little paper wrap around them when you get the guitar. You should use 10's for single coil pickups, and if you want, 9's or 10's for humbucking (dual coil).Set the correct pickup height as most SX guitars come in with to much space between the strings and the pickup. (My SCTVY (Single soap)) came in with a space of 1/2 inch (yeah!)and I actually had to add an extra layer of foam to bring it up to within the 1/8 inch range which is a good starting point for all pickup to string spacings when pressing string at last fret. You may have to oil the tuners and this should be done with the old strings off and use sewing machine oil if you have it, or 3in1 if you don't, but never use anything else except maybe light machining oil which most of us would never have. Apply the oil at the posts and rotate the tuners and if you can get some air in a can, blow the oil between the post and machine area.Your guitar may have a pickguard on it that is bowed a little. Take it off when the strings are off, open up the holes a little with a drill bit that is a little larger (no need to use an actual drill) then get a really big drill bit to re-cut the countersink a little, again, just use your hands, no drill. put a little silicone where the pickguard humps up, set the pickguard on the guitar, put the screws in but not all the way down, clamp the guard down after applying tape to the clamp area on the guard and tape an eraser to the other side of the clamp so you don't scratch your new guitar and let it sit overnight. With the new strings on check the height to pickup/s and adjust bridge height. The last thing you need to do is adjust the truss rod and righty tighty bowes the neck up toward the strings, and lefty loosy bowes the neck down which moves it away from the strings and gives you more gap between strings and fret board. You really can't afford to pay for a pro to set up a $100.00 to $300.00 guitar and you need tolearn how to do it yourself.Once these steps are done (the internet is full of helpful sights that get into all of this stuff) you will have a guitar that is easily worth two to three times what you paid for it andplays sweet! One last note: During all of the adjusting operations, the strings should be backed off a couple of turns. Adjusting truss, bridge height, and string saddles could cause damage, especially to the saddles....

This review is from: SX Callisto MSL Electric Guitar Silverthis is without a doubt an excellent choice .the finish, playability plus the sound let alone the price you get with this les paul clone is well worth the meager 140.00 they charge for this guitar. do not be afraid to make this part of your arsonal it will last a long time.you will need to have this professionally set up....
