This review is from: Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Electric Guitar Wine RedBefore I purchased this instrument, I read a lot of reviews. Some good, some not so good. Biggest complaint was that the instrument was not assembled well and had lose parts when it arrived. Some other complaints was about the action. Blues requires heavier strings, higher action, and wider frets. This instrument is a SUPER GREAT Blues, Jazz, & Country guitar for the money! My instrument arrived in great condition, no lose parts (been playing on it for a month now and nothing lose!) It sounds great (I play Blues) and looks terrific.Unless you want to spend 2 or 3 thousand bucks for a good Blues, Jazz, or Country guitar, you can not go wrong with this fine $500 instrument. This review is from: Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Electric Guitar Wine RedI've had my Riviera for several months. I didn't expect a whole lot. After all, it's a $500 Chinese guitar. But I felt like giving it a shot, since Chinese products are improving so much. I thought it would be a good cheap way to get to know ES335-type guitars with Bigsbys and single-coil pickups, but it turned out to be a great guitar, not just a learning experience.I found a tiny imperfection on the headstock (I can't remember where), and there is a small amount of waviness in the finish in the areas where the fretboard joins the top of the guitar. You would have to be examining the guitar very closely to find these things. Other than that, the guitar seems perfect. It doesn't have the finesse of a high-end Japanese guitar, but I've seen plenty of old Gibsons that seemed less refined. The action is flawless. I have some expensive guitars, but I keep coming back to this one. The neck is flat and straight, and it's fast and friendly. The intonation is good, even down by the nut. It never gives me any problems. The pickups sound very good for blues, but they're not very bright. They are the weak point of the guitar. I wanted a clearer, hotter sound, so I'm putting Lollars on my guitar. It's worth it. I think the middle pickup is silly, but it doesn't seem to hurt the sound. The tuners work fine, but they're small, and they don't have the nice feel of Gotohs or other expensive tuners. The Bigsby works fine, and I haven't seen any problems with the plating. I have a real Bigsby on another guitar, and so far, I haven't noticed any quality difference. The bridge is very good, although the plating is wearing off. The retaining wire on the bridge causes some buzz; you may have to bend yours a little. If you want a nice P90 semihollow guitar with a Bigsby, and you want to save tons of money, this is a good bet. Just be sure you try the guitar before you buy, because there are some lemons out there. The finish problem I have is common, and it can be much worse than it is on my guitar. I think this is a great, economical instrument for a person who wants something that plays and sounds as good as a Gibson (with a little work), but who doesn't want to be afraid to take it out and travel. If you break a $500 guitar, you just drive to Guitar Center and get a new one. I got an SKB case for mine, and with the pickups, I nearly doubled the cost. That should tell you how much I enjoy it....
This review is from: Epiphone Limited Edition Riviera Custom P93 Electric Guitar Wine RedI PURCHASED THIS GUITAR AND SUFFERED GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT. THE INPUT JACK KEEPS FALLING INTO THE BODY OF THE GUITAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES. THE COST TO SHIP THE GUITAR TO EPIPHONE 5 TIMES FOR REPAIRS HAS COST MORE THAN THE PRICE I PAID FOR THE GUITAR. THE BRIDGE VIRBRATES VERY LOUD THAT CAUSES THE P93 PICKUPS TO CAPTURE THIS HORRIBLE SOUND AND SENT IT TO THE AMP. WITHIN ONE YEAR ALL THE PARTS THAT ARE GOLD COLOR WILL TARNISH WITH BLACK PITS. GO ON THE INTERNET AND READ THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS ON THIS GUITAR....
