AXL Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar, Brown

This review is from: AXL Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar, Browni was not sure about this guitar considering that i had never heard of AXL and it was so inexpensive. a little back story about me, i've been playing guitar on and off since i was 13, so, about 15 years now. i moved to oregon from southern california about 5 years ago and didn't bring any guitar equipment with me, save for an acoustic guitar. i have some extra time on my hands now and a few extra bucks, so i went on a hunt for a nice guitar that wouldn't break the bank. i found that in the AXL eldorado badwater series. i watched a bunch of videos on youtube featuring this and other AXL guitars and was impressed (even though i know that you can make a crappy guitar sound decent through a kickass amp). i was hard-pressed to find an actual customer review for this guitar, they were mostly written by guitar magazines, most likely being paid for a good review. i consulted a guitar geek friend and we decided that it could be a good buy!so, this guitar has good action for me and a smallish build, which i like because i'm a girl and, generally, we're smaller than guys- whom most things are built for. it plays very nicely, i was pretty impressed. i may be biased though because i got used to the thickness of an acoustic guitar neck over all these years and the neck on any electric would probably feel nice. i played ibanez talmans in california and i think this one is slightly more heavy and has a slightly thicker neck, if that gives anyone a frame of reference. the only things that i have to complain about are the placement of the top strap button and that there is a crack in the headstock. the placement of the strap button causes it to want to shift downward on the left, so i have to hold it up. i read the same complaint somewhere else as well. i think i could drill a new hole for it and fill the old one. should be fine. as for the crack, i'm not sure if it is due to the aging process that they put the guitar through to get the demolished finish (which is beautiful) OR if it's a legit crack that i should look into repairing. i think i'll err on the side of repair.the downfall of this review is that i do not have a guitar amp or pod or anything currently so, i haven't hear this baby plugged in yet. i figured that there may be people interested in buying this guitar that would if only they could find more info, so i'm hoping to contribute to the base of info. i will update this review when my amp is delivered from california (a groove tubes soul-o 75)....

This review is from: AXL Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar, BrownPicked this guitar up in a piano and organ shop....(of all places). Never even heard of AXL before then. Plugged it into an AXL amp, that by the way sounded awesome, and fell for this guitar right away. Got it for 185USD + the gov's cut (tax). Got the crackle finish. Love it. I also own a Jap made Tele (Top Quality), a Tom Anderson Custom Shop Drop Top (EXPENSIVE), and a Yamaha Pacifica Strat. I know quality when I pick it up. The AXL is right up there. Little different sound and feel than the Telecaster. AXL is lighter weight wise, and has more of jangle sound...very cool...but roars with the best of them. The Alnico p/u's are sweet. The pick guard is wood or simulated wood and looks killer. To make the guitar better...If I were designing it...I'd add a rib side cutaway to the back for comfort, and add the option of a tremolo bridge. Oh...and pop some quick release push pin style strap plugs on it. And maybe some lockable tuner pegs. Good options, but it would push the price higher of course. All in all, a kick arse playing and looking guitar. Shred Early, Shred Often,The Duke...

This review is from: AXL Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar, BrownDo yourself a favor and buy one. The EMGs got a wonderful sound, the guitar has a great look and plays quite well out of the box. I have been tearing it up every since it came in-- and for my current location, shipping and packaging was great. It is not a Telecaster, but it is as near as you are going to get to one at this price....
