This review is from: Hagstrom HB-8 Bass Guitar (8 String, Wild Cherry Transparent)Hagstrom HB-8 8 string bass guitar is great sounding instrument and is fun to play. The craftmanship is excellent.I like the unique look of the tuning keys. The bass has a six way selector rotary pot that gives you a variety of sounds. The scale length is 30.75".I had a little trouble finding a little D string that was long enough.I would suggest a .022 Bajo Sexto string. The bridge is heavy duty .I bought the Wild Cherry transparent finish that looks great.I am vey pleased with this bass and I would recommend this bass to someone looking a different sound....
This review is from: Hagstrom HB-8 Bass Guitar (8 String, Wild Cherry Transparent)Okay, this is a great instrument. Sounds great through an amp. I usually don't buy new instruments online without having tried them, but with this one, I must say you're getting something pretty unique and powerful. However....: 1) I can't find whole spare sets of strings. Am I looking in the wrong places? There is another product review that states a high-g string you can use, but I want to know for sure. 2) I have some educated guesses as to what, exactly, the five position pickup switch does, but there is no literature on it included with the bass. Sorry, but if I'm paying several hundred dollars for something, I expect some documentation. Even if it's poorly translated into English, you need a booklet. Both the string and pickup mysteries could be resolved this way. 3) Also, if you buy this (which I would still recommend, despite all collateral issues), good luck finding a case that pits perfectly. You'll be modifying whatever you get, however you can. I got a standard bass hard shell case and put an afgan (blanket, yo?) folded in around the headstock. The bass is not full scale length. 4) I recommend backing off on the tone knob a bit, say, to 1/3 - 1/2 hi/lo ratio. The pickups have a really sharp quality when the tone pot is at full bore, preferentailly emphasizing the higher, thinner auxiliary strings. This isn't because of the new strings, either. Just ease up on that tone know, pluck clean and true, and enjoy....
