This review is from: Epiphone Limited Edition 1956 Les Paul Electric Guitar Gold TopI am very surprised and amazed at the quality of the Gold Top Epiphone 56 Les Paul. I own 20 guitars and this one feels "Right" and sounds like a Les Paul should. It replaced a 71 Gibson Gold Top, and frankly, it is lighter, the former was a boat anchor, and plays better. It is possible that I just got lucky, but the last 2 epiphones I bought were also superior to the last Gibson I bought which was an SG. Guess what I play everyday...? the Epiphone, I really don't care what the name on the headstock says nor do I care what Gibson snobs think. I have been playing guitar since 1967, you do the math....
This review is from: Epiphone Limited Edition 1956 Les Paul Electric Guitar Gold TopFirst of all, this guitar was cheap in price - $405 new in box with shipping ordered through Amazon. I knew it would not be a Gibson when I purchased it, although it does sound very similar to it's Gibson brethren. My only beef about it: where was the quality control during production? It does have a good body and neck and it is nice to play. However, there were small bits of trash left on the body when the clear was sprayed on, the pickup holes were not lined up when routed (especially the neck pickup) causing the pickup poles to be noticeably out of alignment with the strings and the back of the body still has the sprayed over pencil marks aligning the electronics holes.I rated it 3 stars for the sound and playability and I will hang on to it - I'm afraid I may not get another one if I return it since I've heard they have stopped producing these and I didn't pay a Gibson price for it. I guess I could always refer to it as a "Relic" if anyone asks me about it.It's a good guitar, just go physically look one over before you buy it. Next time, I will.Bob S...
