This review is from: Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR Electric Guitar, Black CherryI purchased one of these Guitars at a local Best Buy. I was looking for a good guitar that can scream hard rock, and pull of nice cleans for blues. I researched a lot before I bought the guitar, and I have to say, I am very happy with it.First, let me just say that this guitar has an original Floyd Rose bridge. That means two things: One, once the guitar is properly setup it almost never goes out of tune. The locking neck keeps the strings in place, no matter how much you wail on it, and fine tune adjustments can be made on the bridge. Two, because it is a Floyd Rose bridge, it is harder to change out strings. The bridge is not fixed; it floats, with pressure applied on one side by springs within the guitar, and on the other side by the strings. Tuning one string causes other strings to go out of tune (e.g. tuning the 6th string affects the tuning of the 1st string). This can make it somewhat difficult to tune if you put new strings on it.Once the guitar is setup for a certain gauge string, you have to use the same gauge or it throws the setup off, and the springs have to be re-adjusted. If you use the same gauge string you should be good by just changing the strings (one at a time). Ultimately, it is best if you make any major changes to this guitar to get it setup by a professional. It is very difficult to do the setup yourself. So, make sure you understand what you are getting into when you get a guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge. That aside, the guitar met and exceeded all my expectations. I like really low action on my guitars, and as long as your strings clear the pickups you are good with this baby. The only time the strings rattle is if you fail to fret it correctly. The frets are nice and large, which is a plus if you have big fingers, like me.The pickups on this bad boy are active. That means the sound you get out of it is intense, and consistent. None of the strings sound muted, no matter how lightly you may pick the strings. The pickups are normally dual-coil, humbuckers but you can pull the pickup controls up and instantly convert one or both pickups to single-coil, which really adds to this guitar's versatility. The strings are 10-guage D'Addario strings. I have tried several different guages and brands, and have found 11-guage Boomers to work really well for me. The D'Addario brand strings sound muted by comparison. The overall quality of the guitar is excellent. I have not found any flaws in mine yet. I cannot comment on shipping and handling of these guitars, because I always pick up guitars at the store, and buy them only after I inspect them and test them out, on site. That being said, if you are looking for one seriously sick guitar, I find it hard to believe you will find anything better for the price. This guitar easily outperforms other guitars that sells for hundreds, if not thousands more....
This review is from: Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR Electric Guitar, Black CherryAmerican Musical Supply, who I have now had two of these sent to me, has been simply wonderful in taking care of me through what has been a not-so-fun misadventure into the world of foreign-built guitars. The first guitar came with one of the mother-of-pearl inlaid crosses only half applied. The top half was simply rosewood. And from seeing this I can tell you that inlay is micrometers thick. Almost nothing to it. Add to this that you do not get a case and my second guitar came with the tremolo accessories bag bouncing around in the box. 5 nice dents in the back of the replacement they sent me. The guitar has a great metal sound if you get one that's in good shape, I'd go to Guitar Center so you can see it, play it, and take it home. As it is for me know... enough foreign guitars. I'm going to have AMS (I told you they've been great through this and are going to give me a discount for the inconvenience) send me an american made Fender Deluxe strat which ships in a case. Schecter: Good tone... lousy packaging and QA. And they shouldn't call those inlays mother of pearl, more like ghost of pearl, they are so thin....
