This review is from: American Standard 110402705 Stratocaster Electric Guitar (Olympic White)I just got this from Amazon affiliate seller Music 123. They got it to me in six days (it would have been five had it not been for UPS' characteristically infuriating inefficient routing) from the night I ordered it. It came in a top notch case with a Fender guitar strap, a polish cloth, a couple of Allen wrenches and a sturdy ten foot cord. My other main online music instrument shops had been out of this item for a while, so I was stoked to find another vendor I could depend on to get it to me in a sane amount of time and in an intact state. Anyway, it was packed in a box that was swaddled by thick paper bags, which was in turn packed into a thick cardboard box. Not a scratch on the instrument, the finish on the neck was smooth and immaculate, the tone was bright and, when you wack your amp up to an approximation of Richie Blackmore's settings, a little slashing. The action was low (typical with guitars that are shipped, though, the strings were a half step out of tune, but nonetheless in relative tuning with the g string a bit flat. Took all of about a minute to put them at standard tuning and it held even with some t-bar abuse) with only the barest buzz on the low E at the first fret. Whoever set this up at the factory did a nice job. I don't think I will need to have it taken in for a setup as as things stand now. Yes, there was the famous 60 cycle single coil hum, but not annoyingly loud and that was while playing it directly in front of a tv that was on at the time. I think I can live with it for now. I haven't tried it through my pedal board yet since I am in the process of rejiggering my pedal lineup, but if the hum gets out of hand when I stomp on my Bad Monkey, for example, even with a noise suppressor, I will just have some vintage noiseless pickups installed to solve the problem. Not a big deal. So yeah, to quote Johnny Thunders, I am in love, L-U-V, with this thing....
This review is from: American Standard 110402705 Stratocaster Electric Guitar (Olympic White)I never had an American made guitar before. Previously I had a Korean Made LTD (V-100), a Korean Yamaha (AES-620) and a cheap Chinese Ibanez. I never quite understood how American made guitars could be any superior to those I already own. Then I ordered this guitar. The moment it arrived I immediately inspected the guitar. The built quality is immaculate. There's nothing out of place. I tuned it up, and it played great right out of the box! I immediately fell in love in it, and when I returned to my previously trusty Yamaha, there's just no comparison, and the Yamaha is not to shabby either (may be it's the thinner neck on the Fender). This guitar immediately became my favorite out of the four. I am playing the guitar using a Vox Night Train with a V112TV cab, and it tone just sparkles. It is as if the amp and the guitar were made for each other.Upon close inspection, there is a slight scratch in the body, which is quite invisible unless you look real close. Not a deal breaker, the guitar has traveled thousands of miles to get to Malaysia, some slight scratches does not really bother me...In all, great guitar, great value, I would definitely aim to purchase another next time!!! Now I don't think I would be able to purchase anything less than an American made Fender again!!! I am already saving up to buy another (maybe an HSS) next year......
