This review is from: First Act ME447 Designer Double Cutaway Electric GuitarI purchased the guitar because it was affordable and very stylish. I've been playing guitar for 17 years and just wanted something cheap and cool to play around with. I was very surprised with the quality and for the price I couldn't be happier. Great first guitar or second and very cool looking. For the experienced guitar player looking for something just to play for kicks..this is a great option....
This review is from: First Act ME447 Designer Double Cutaway Electric GuitarI'll be honest; I have been playing for a couple years, and am pretty much a gearhead more than a player. I also have a long woodworking background, so now I create guitars using pawn shop buys where I salvage the neck, occasional bridge, and electronics. Then I build a new, artistic body. Sometimes I keep them, sometimes I get a buyer who knows what I am doing. It's a fun hobby. So I saw this exact model in a local pawn shop for $80, and I got them down to $50. I didn't even bother plugging it in to see if it worked. Not much to fail. I found a missing knob by luck in a local guitar shop and then I went home to play it before tearing it down. And pretty much changed my mind about scrapping it out. Who is winding these pickups? They are listed as "patent pending high output". I don't know about the patent end of it, but high output is dead on. These things can scream. But they have no name on them anywhere. A new set of GHS Boomer strings, and a complete setup and this thing just rocks the house. It's sick, sick, sick. I've paid hundreds more for guitars that don't have the output and sound this does. It's brassier than a Les Paul, even with the two humbuckers, and it has loads of sustain with that hardtail bridge. And the volume and tone are linear, at least on mine. No taking off at 3 or 4 like some cheap units. There are a lot of articles about Kent Armstrong doing pickups for First Act; I wonder if he had a hand in these. They are just crazy loud, and they rock. Play them together it's the only way to go.The body is cheap and the tuners are terrible, but this thing can simply rock. Neck is a little wide, and I'm not a fan of the jumbo frets First Act seems to use all the time. But action is not too bad, kind of a cheesy paint job, and the pickguard was peeling on mine, but superglue fixed that.Overall, if you are looking for a cheap axe that is a real sleeper, you could do a lot worse and spend more money. It's like the ultimate garage band axe....
