G&L Tribute S-500 Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Maple Neck)

This review is from: G&L Tribute S-500 Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Maple Neck)First of all, I love the Maple neck on this guitar. Not too fat, not too thin...just right. Secondly, the American made MFD pickups have great sparkle in all positions. Don't forget that you pull out the Treble knob and you have the additional Neck and Bridge combined position, which is a nice touch. Next, the separate tone control to roll off the bass is very practical and allows you to adjust the "twang" without touching your amp. Fourth, the swamp ash body is stunning and is light enough to save your back if you are gigging all night. There is nothing not to love here--although it did need minor setup...something that all guitars seem to need. The floating vibrato/tremolo is another nice feature, you can pull back or push down, and it seems to stay in tune well. The steel block in the vibrato is huge and allows for great sustain. And finally, the included Deluxe Gig Bag is thickly padded and very study--it even has a hanger built in so you can hang it up in a closet for easy storage. This is Leo Fender's finest Stratocaster at a fraction of the cost!!...

This review is from: G&L Tribute S-500 Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Maple Neck)This Guitar is a great thing. It has a lot of different sounds you can get out of it. I found that you really have to set your tone pots where you want them. Don't just turn them both up to 10. I suggest keeping the action on the higher side and drop the pickups low to get the best tone outta the thing. The construction of this guitar is really nice. The finish is beautiful, you can tell the paint is super hard. If you are looking for a nice Blues/Funk or Rock guitar this is perfect....

This review is from: G&L Tribute S-500 Guitar (Natural Gloss, Hard Rock Maple Neck)First, let me say that the guitar was aesthetically pleasing and well-constructed, though it was no comfort to play. The ends of the frets were actually quite sharp. Also, the strings buzzed from the 4th fret clear to the neck pickup. It did not appear to be merely a matter of adjustment; it seemed that the frets themselves were suspect. It's sad because this guitar has potential. It shouldnt have left the factory in this state, and should have been set up properly before sale. The quality control people were asleep at the wheel -- someone dropped the ball...
