Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Faded Cherry Sunburst

This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Faded Cherry SunburstThe Finish is beautiful. It's half the weight of the real thing. Pickups sound like a PRS more than PAF. Not quite as lowdown and funky as the real thing. When you add the acoustic pickup, then it takes on that LP sound. If you like using a slide, the active pickup screams even at low volume. In fact if you like to use a slide or your fingers, you can't beat this thing. I did leave the battery in the active pickup on, and it went dead in a couple of days, my fault. Just remove the battery or shut the knob on the back off. This is a unique guitar that will take you places sonicly that you can't go with anything else. I use it with two cords and a high end 300 watt stereo tube amp and throw in some drive. All I can say is Wow. No, it is not a 40 year old LP, nothing sounds like that only the real thing. For a modern sound you can take to some real funky places, this guitar can't be beat....

This review is from: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Faded Cherry SunburstThe Les Paul Ultra-II is a different beast. This is the original ultra, i purchased one two Augusts ago with a little maintenance it has defeated many of my other pricey guitars. The sound is a bit murky like fellow Les Pauls before it, you can assume though a nice hard driven rock sound, and a cutting edge solo tone. The treble and rhythm feature such a strong contrast against each other. The rhythm sounds good enough to be used on clean channel unlike many other Les Pauls. The gold alnico humbuckers and tuning pegs really add to a nicer interpretation along with the stylized burst scattered body. The guitars strap peg may fall out entirely, easy to fix. With multiple sessions put down on this guitar i find no reason why not to buy it, it endures well and plays as well as it endures! I own eight guitars (some even being the elusive Stevie Ray Vaughan sig Fender, Zakk Wylde Gibson LP, Ibanez RG, Another Epi LP ect), and have played with many guitarists/musicians. They all note how well this guitar performs. Althought it's not for sale currently i recommend you search a Guitar Center, you can find one around 500$ or less. This Epi competes well beyond the degrees of fellow higher companioned Gibson....

AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, Black

This review is from: AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, BlackI was never looking into this guitar i was looking into B.C Rich's Red bevel warlock guitar, but as i was going to purchase it, it sold out. out of desperation i frantically searched for a new stylish guitar and i saw this one and quickly ordered it. When it got here i was happy playing it but while spending time with it i soon realized its potential. The floating tremelo works like a dream when using the whammy bar for certain songs, the frets are jumbo as advertised, the neck is thin which allows me to go up and down the fret board with ease for songs like roulette or aces high, the strings i really didn't care for because i replaced them with Ernie ball power slinky which is great, the pickups are nice but i feel as if i want to replace them with something a bit stronger, though EMG did out do themselves with it, the clamps on the bridge come to good use and enhance the tone while playing (ive played with and without them and its better with) I love the shape, the pick up switch is very useful when switching from metal to acoustic but can cause a ruckus if your settings or amp is a bit too sensitive. (one pro and con of the pick up is that it hears EVERYTHING so excess noise has to be cleaned if your sloppy on the fret board or just movement period) It is an overall great guitar that id love to buy again (in a different color)...

This review is from: AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, BlackThe look of the guitar is the best part of this. The pickups have little tone and the construction is poor. The wood used is subpar and the tuners feel loose. This is on the lower end of entry level guitars and if I had it to do over I would have bought a guitar with a better name in the industry so I could find someone else who would buy this.Disappointed...

This review is from: AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, BlackI loved the looks of this guitar the second I saw it, and the other reviewer seemed to really know his stuff, and for the price i figured why not give it a shot. I love it, as the first reviewer mentioned the pick-ups hear everything, so any sloppy movement on the neck comes out of the amp. Not a big deal if you ask me, it forces me to be a better player. My only true gripe here is that in the picture it looks to have a green edge, however it does not, solid black for sure, I would have loved to have that green edge, but after spending some time with this guitar, its a keeper!...
