This review is from: Gibson SG Special 60s Tribute Electric Guitar, Worn Ebony, Left HandedHaving gotten it this week from Musicians Friend - in like 3 days - I can offer first impressions. a) Closely observed, there's less finish on it than I thought there would be. The thin coat of white finish barely covers the raw wood. Yet a couple of feet away from the guitar the look is workmanlike and OK. b) Love the Gibson tuners! c) Action is reasonably low and fast. Wonder if I can tweak it a bit lower without adding fret buzz? c) Frets seem nicely seated. But they are noticeable along the outside edge of the fretboard. d) Pickup switch does not seat quite solidly in the treble position. Middle and Rhythm positions are fine. e) The pickguard seemed somewhat scratched in a reflective light. There was no stick-on plastic protection on it. I think it is simply one very cheap piece of plastic. f) Light as a bird. That's important to me. g) Neck is pleasingly slim. h) Love the fret access up past the 15th fret. i) P-90s have almost as much power and sustain as humbuckers. The bridge pickup is a bit darker in sound than I'd expected. Punched up the treble a bit on the Blues Junior amp and all is good. j) Input jack clicks solidly. Overall, a keeper. I think time spent playing her will bring us even closer together. Ps: Epiphone hardshell case seems a good fit and of good quality; happy to have it because Gibson necks are vulnerable....
This review is from: Gibson SG Special 60s Tribute Electric Guitar, Worn Ebony, Left HandedI have received two Gibson specials now.I returned one LP that was so bad I just could not keep it.This one is playable, but with the over wound pickups has to much attack for me.I also received the guitar in a non set up state with dials going every direction but thecorrect direction which shows me that (as I have always thought), Gibson could care less aboutthese low end products.The fret work is not good as you get finger rash the closer you get to the bout.The frets sit way to low.The neck is very wide and this plays into preference, but not mine.I actually have an Epi SG with Hums and a Gibson SG3 that both have better action than this guitar.I also have an SX LP style two soap that plays much better than this guitar at a price tag of $135.00!YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE NAME WITH THIS GUITAR, NOTHING MORE.To top it off, the free bag that comes with the guitar while looking good has a very poor design in thatthe zipper only runs along the front side and does not turn in at the head or bout bottom so you get to jamthe guitar in, or yank it out and scrape your nice new Gibson guitar on the zipper.I do know what I am talking about, as I also have a couple of Custom shop gibsons at over 3K each, and 58 other electric guitars by different manufacturers, so I know what you should get for this price range. Don't get me wrong, I would never expect 3K quality out of a special, but would expect as much as any other $700.00-$800.00 guitar and you definitely don't get it with this guitar, or any special that I have had any experience with.If you are just into the Gibson name, then go for it, and put it in the bag in a far away corner with the rest of your collection....

This review is from: ESP LTD MH250 Electric Guitar with Tremolo (See Thru Black)This is actually Vladimir's 15-year-old son (the guitarist/metalhead of the household, haha). We ordered this guitar two days ago, and it just came yesterday. (I'm VERY pleased with the speed of its arrival, but I'm in CT and American Musical Supply is in New Jersey, so this probably won't be the case for everyone.) It's pretty safe for me to say that this guitar is one of the best guitars I've ever played. (I've only been playing for two years, but I've tried out plenty of guitars.) The playability is great, the sound is awesome (and the pickups give good variety while still sounding great), it feels very sturdy and heavy, and the floyd rose is a LOT of fun to play with. It came in perfect condition, too.The only thing is, the picture here looks slightly reddish, though the actual guitar is very black. Look on the ESP website for a better picture, but keep in mind the visibility of the (awesome) pattern depends a lot on the light. But that isn't even any sort of drawback, I'm just saying that this picture isn't quite what the guitar really looks like.Overall, I am VERY satisfied with this guitar. This is only a first impression, and my opinion may change in the long run, but from what I've seen so far this guitar blows my other ones out of the water. If you're looking for a high quality guitar (with a fun floyd rose tremolo to boot) for a relatively low price, I'd definitely recommend this.(My bandmates are REALLY jealous.)...
